How can I obtain my dog training license?

March 31, 2010 - 9:42 am 2 Comments

I am currently looking to get my dog training license, and I don’t know if I just retarded but I can’t find any information on how get it anywhere.

I’m just trying to figure out where to get it, the cost, all that nonsense.
Sorry, I guess I meant my business license. I would like to start my own pet care/training business. I assume I need a license for that…

No such thing!

Why do people continue to buy dogs from pet stores, when they are just supporting puppy mills?

March 31, 2010 - 9:42 am 19 Comments

Pet store dogs are from puppy mills. If you want a dog, get one from a breeder, not a pet store. If you’re going to spend all that money on a dog, then do it right and don’t support puppy mills. If you don’t know what a puppy mill is, then google it or look it up on Youtube so you can see pictures of what dogs are put through at puppy mills.

One thing that Pet Stores and Breeders have in common… charging way too much for a dog. I’d rather buy from a byb than 1000’s of dollars on a puppy. I’ll take my chances on health concerns… worked out so far for me…

Oh, and when I TRIED to use a breeder… they told me no because my husband is military and they didn’t want "Their" puppy to ever have to move… When I buy a shirt, it’s my shirt. When I buy shoes, they’re my shoes. When I buy a puppy, it’s my puppy. The only thing I would sign was the spay contract, but they said no because I wouldn’t agree to never move again for the life of the dog.

Where can i find an easy to use dog breeds gallery?

March 31, 2010 - 9:42 am 4 Comments

I need a gallery that shows more images of dog breeds on the same page. I DON’T want to click through 100+ pages to see each breed individually. Any ideas?

No, sorry. The closest thing I have found is the AKC website where you click "breeds by name" and it gives you pages of dogs in alphabetical order. www.akc.org
Google Dog breed photos

I have leftovers, and I don’t want to just throw them away, but I don’t want to give them to my beagle if it’s going to cause serious damage. Help please?

I got it, if no one else did…

What are some symptoms of carsickness for dogs?

March 31, 2010 - 9:42 am 11 Comments

My husband and I have a 8 wk. old Maltese and Shih Tzu mix and we take him with us for rides in the car. Today was his 6th time and also his longest time spent in the car. Next thing we know, he starts to dry heave and eventually vomits. He has no fever and he drinks his water to help him vomit more, but I just want to make sure its not parvo. The vet isn’t open untill morning. Please help.

i would be willing to bet it’s just car sickness. Parvo is a virus that attacks the intestinal system and severe diarrhea is always a symptom. The reason he drinks water after he vomits is the same reason you would . He like the taste of the water better than the vomit taste. Even if a dog is used to riding in a car they can still get motion sickness after an extended period time riding in a car. Especially if you feed them while there riding or just before the ride. Bur water should always be kept accessible to your dog while riding in the car. When taking your dog for an extended car ride you should make frequent stops along the way. Because the dog needs a break from the car in the same way you would.i.e To potty, Stretch their legs and to get some fresh air. This will also help a great deal with the car sickness issue for the dog. But if the vomiting continues even after the car ride has ended you should take him to the vet to be checked out.

Is it possible to get someone arrested for ripping you off in a dog sale?

March 31, 2010 - 9:42 am 11 Comments

For example, if they say the pup’s parents have a full coat of hair, while either or both of the pup’s parents were actually bald, and the pup turned out to be bald as well, could I have to sellers arrested?
*With proof that we bought the dog
That was just an example, I didn’t actually buy a bald dog, no point in telling me to check on the parents and saying that I was foolish for buying it, because I didn’t.

When it comes to live animals, it’s really touchy. Did you see the puppy’s parents before you bought the puppy? Did they make any misrepresentations? Did they switch the parents of the puppy that they showed you? Even if the parents of the puppy weren’t bald, it could be in the genetics that the puppy inherited from past generations.

If there are other people that they have done the same thing to, then it would be considered fraud/swindle and they could possibly be arrested. But, if it is just you alone, you would probably have to deal with it through small claims.

Caveat emptor!

Thank goodness this is a hypothetical question.

My Boxer dogs ignore all food exept Chappie Chicken and Rice, is this a good food?

March 31, 2010 - 9:42 am 2 Comments

They love it! all other dog kibbles get ignored or other foods. They love the chappie and eat it immediately. Is this a good food for boxers in your opinion? it is fish based 14% then chicken and rice then cereals and vitamins. It is also one of the cheapest to buy which is ironic as my boxers refuse science plan and others more expensive

im guessing this is a manufactured dog food?
im not aware of the brand. but if your dogs are fussy eaters you can feed them on cooked chicken/scrabbled egg/fish (if u dnt mind the smell) and boiled rice. also plain pasta, weetabix with water, good quality dry dog food soaked in water first and a bit of veg.
ohhh and my dog gets a mini sunday dinner!
(although not as cheap as tinned food and a little more effort atleast you know whats going into your dog and know your feeding them good food)

my dog lives off this because she started off as a fussy eater and then developed problems with her digestive system and heart probs so she can only eat small light meals.

shes a 9 year old king charles cavalier and although her age has made her more subdued she is still full of beans and has a really healthy coat. just a shame she has so many inherited problems.

Why should maltese dogs stay out of the damp?

March 31, 2010 - 9:42 am 3 Comments

Every time i go to a website about maltese dogs they say-"Make sure your dog stays out of the damp" im assuming there talking about the weather but why is it so important

Maltese have very fine hair, when it gets wet (or damp) it can get matted very easily (unless dried properly). Maltese need to be brushed daily whether they get wet or not.

How to get a dog to get along with other dogs?

March 31, 2010 - 9:42 am 2 Comments

My roomate and I both just got dogs. I got mine, a blue heeler, about a week or two before he got his yellow lab. My blue heeler went after his dog right away but seemed to calm down that night. We went to bed, my dog escaped my makeshift pen and when I woke up they were both hanging out downstairs no problem. They are usually ok with each other but when I bring my dog in from a walk he always goes berzerk. It happens every single time that when he comes in he goes right after the lab. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The first couple times the lab was right at the door and I attributed it to the surprise. The last few though he’s been visible but on the other side of the house.

This may be caused by your dog feeling "his" house is for him only, and coming in from the outside to his domain he does not want to see anyone else there.
When you come in, is the lab waiting at the door?
When you come in, ask your roommate to have the lab somewhere in the house not readily visible from the door you and your heeler are coming in. this way, your dog can come in to a quiet house and not feel threatened.
Another option, if your schedule allows it, have you and your roommate take the dogs for a joint walk, so neither is home when the other one comes in.
