I live in north central florida and I want to get a boxer. I don’t know how boxers will do with that heat.
i would never recommend that. summer’s here in NJ are hard enough on my 2 boxers. we have to severely limit outside play. even if they’re outside running around for only 15 minutes they’re panting for maybe 30 minutes afterwards. because they are brachycephalic dogs (squishy face as i like to call them) they have a harder time breathing than dogs with long noses such as labs, and the heat definitely doesn’t help. some are worse than others with it, my youngest (9 months) can play outside and get real hot and worked up and come in and be playing in the house 5 minutes later. but my diesel (1 year) will then have to lay down for a little while and recuperate. neither have any health problems or heart murmurs or anything, it’s just the breed. if you plan on keeping him inside except to take him potty and for many short walks, he may be okay. maybe like five 15-minute walks a day or so. and lots of fresh water. i’m sure people have boxers in florida, but if i were you i would get enough breed. even though they are the best breed ever… truly amazing dogs. =) hope i helped
to jen, it’s not the coat of a boxer that makes it not do well in the heat. the coat is why it can’t live in cold conditions, but it’s their bone structure/nasal cavity that makes them do poorly in the heat.
and whoever has had their boxer outside for 5 years, that is TERRIBLE. they are NOT outside dogs. they cannot live in the heat and cold. give the dog to a boxer rescue who will put the dog in a good home, he deserves a good home. he does not deserve to not be a part of the family. you’re not the right owner for him, please contact a boxer rescue in your area.
I have registered with my local boxer rescue to foster needy dogs until they find them suitable new homes. I was wondering if anybody had experience of this? I would love to open my home to needy dogs and have a large garden with trees and lawns which my own two boxers play in for hours. I also would appreciate any good tips.thanks
I’m a foster parent too. It’s a great experience. The foster coordinator will give you all the information you need about each dog you foster. Any questions should be directed toward them. They may give you special things to pay attention to but otherwise you just treat them like a pet. Teach them how to live in a house.
I have a 7 year old boxer and he has always been very playful! He always acts youthful and never shows when he is in pain or anything! I have had other boxers which have also been this way.
i’ve always throught that its from when they were first bredd i think its just there breed but i dunno! I have a 3 year old boxer who thinks she’s still a puppy too!
Stay with boxers there cool!

I am asking because many people say they are rubbish at guarding their home, while other people say they are good guard dogs. Are they any good at all to guard the home they live in?
I personally don’t mind if they are just a watch dog. It will be a pet and if an intruder gets into my home, I just want a dog to alert me than I will do the rest. Some of you have missed the point. I do thank those who have given some good answers so far.
They are great watchdogs, meaning they will let you know when anyone comes around, but not all of them are great watchdogs — they’re just too darn sweet. =)
I have 2 female boxers, a 7 year old and a 1.5 year old, and they are both great at alerting me when someone is outside. The older one I believe is a great guard dog — she would definitely stand her ground if someone she didn’t know tried to get in while I was gone. The younger one, not so much. She’s a sweetheart. Maybe it will come with age though. =) We also tend to discourage their barking incessantly, as we often have company come over. If we didn’t reprimand that behavior, I assume they’d be better at it.
I would think that an intruder who’s trying to break in wouldn’t take a chance in assuming a 70 pound barking dog (or two) might turn out to be friendly once he gets inside.
A female boxer is more likely to guard than a male is due to their maternal instincts to protect home and family.
My dogs coat is very dull, she eats dry food. Any ideas on how to make it more glossy?
Got this from a different Q/A website:
I have my dobes on Nutro Max, and they are very shiny. Everyone always asks how do I get them so shiny. Answer is nothing special. The food and i bath in an Oatmeal shampoo about once a month.
I have a Boxer puppy that just will not behave. He is almost 6 months old. Is there anything that I can do to make him mind.
I have a pit bull boxer mix. She is very well behaved, however I take her for walks everyday, because she also has loads of energy. If she didn’t get her daily walk she would probably be in trouble all the time, but she is well mannered.
My Boxer/Staffordshire puppy, Honey, learned this trick in 5 minutes. Now, she can balance almost anything on her nose.
