What are some good dog breeds for people with allergies?
My family has been thinking about getting a dog, but my sister is allergic. We have looked at some hairless breeds like the Xoloitzcuintli. We would greatly appreciate some suggestions of good hairless or hypo allergenic breeds. Thanks.
you can make any dog this way!
there are dog shampoos and supplies wich are safe for you and your pet
of course of close regular trim and she will be fine imallergic to dog and i use thsi method on my 2 rottys and it works fine
There are many dogs that don’t shed that aren’t hairless, but if you’re looking for a hairless dog, a chinese crested is also a good suggestion, and some cresteds come completely covered in fur and don’t shed.
Here’s a list of low-shedding dogs:http://dogbreedinfo.com/lightshedders.htm
Here’s a list of "hypoallergenic" dogs: http://dogbreedinfo.com/allergy.htm
Good luck!

poodles are great! they barley shed, and are really fun and playful! I have a poodle and his fur can get long some times, and begins to shed a little, but if he get’s a monthly hair cut it will be fine and not shed at all

Poodle, Shih Tzu, Maltese, or anything with hair instead of fur. It is actually the dander from the skin that makes people allergic.

I think yorkies might be because they have more human like hair than fur.
the hairless chinese crested…theyre pretty crazy looking and very little hair.

There are several breeds who have hair rather than fur (much like ours, in fact). At vetinfo.com there’s a list of these. I like the standard poodle. They are very intelligent and loving. I work for a vet and have met a number of the breeds on the list and really love the poodles (both standard, miniature and toy) and the mixes of these breeds. Do a bunch of research on the ones that interest you to see which would fit best into your family’s lifestyle. Don’t discount the many mixed breeds with these characteristics available at shelters. The staff there are eager to help with your specific concerns and will have a lot of info. on each adoptee. Best wishes to you and your new best friend:)

There is no such thing as "hypoallergenic"!!!! Why can’t people get that through their minds??!!!!
When people have allergies to dogs it is because of the dander, which comes from the skin! All dogs have skin, obviously! There are just breeds that are better for allergy sufferers because they produce less dander. Poodles, Bichon Frises, Portugese Water Dogs, Shih Tzus, etc., etc. are all dogs that are good for allergy sufferers….but again THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "HYPOALLERGENIC"!!!

Labradors have very short hair plus its very ideal as a family dog. Although other than its compatibility with your sister’s condition, you might want to also consider the dog’s daily exercise requirement, grooming maintenance and bonding time that is all important to keep a pet dog happy and healthy.
I recommend that you watch my 4 minute dog choosing video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pxui6GMCfo that will help you a lot in the dog choosing and narrow down your selection to breeds that are most compatible with your lifestyle and preference. have fun with the new pet!
