What dog breeds are considered aggresive?
February 7, 2010 - 6:42 am
I was wondering which dog breeds were considered to be aggressive here in the United States. I am having to relocate and some of the homes I am considering renting do not allow aggressive dogs. I have a Siberian Husky, he is 4 going on 5, he is a well mannered dog.
Here is an excerpt from the "dangerous dogs" list.
Pit bulls
Rottweilers
German Shepherds
Huskies
Alaskan Malamutes
Doberman Pinschers
Chow Chows
Great Danes
St. Bernards
Akitas

Well generally people think pit bulls, rotwiellers, dobermans, and sometimes german shepherds are aggressive dogs but I say it depends on the dog and how they are trained and treated. Ask the landlords of the places you may be renting what they consider aggressive dogs. You wouldn’t want to sign a lease then realize they think a husky is aggressive.

What you really want to do is find out what insurance companies consider aggressive and there are TONS of them. Yes, Husky is on the list! If you listen to media (NOT RECOMMENDED) some breeds are being exploited as aggressive, don’t believe the hype. I’ve seen a list online of of property insurance companies list of aggressive canines. See if you can find it. Don’t worry, Husky may be on the list, but compared to some other breeds, it barely ranks.

A husky won’t be a problem (unless it is because of his size. Some places have a weight cap)
As you know there are no bad breeds, just ill-informed and irresponsible people. Still, the short list of dogs generally considered to be ‘aggressive’ and ‘dangerous’ (as set by the cooporation that owns the complex) usually includes:
Pit Bulls
Rottweilers
Dobies
German Shepherds
(and at one particularly ignorant complex I visited – St. Bernards, Great Danes, and Dalmatians – WTF?)
Note: this list varies between pet policies and rental agencies. If you don’t have luck in one place, keep searching (and to the best of my knowledge no city has a breed ban on huskies)

well, there are some breeds that are considered far more aggresive than others. pit bulls top the list, but Dobermans and German Shepherds can also be found on it. there are a few different terrier breeds that could be considered aggressive. your husky is probably going to be okay.
oh, by the way, did you know that more people are bitten by cocker spaniels each year than pit bulls? it’s true.

I think your Husky is okay. They are probably talking about Rotweilers, Doberman, Pitt Bulls, maybe Dalmations too. Hope that helps. Good Luck with your move!

According to my insurance company, Akitas, Pit bulls, Chow Chows, Rots, and Dobermans are considered to be aggressive dogs. I do not agree with that totally but in order for me to stay insured I am not allowed to have one of these dogs.

You know, people who think that any specific dog breed is supposed to be ‘agressive’ by nature tend to tick me off. not that I’m saying you’re one of them, it’s just a ‘pet’ peeve of mine. Example- Pitts and Rotts. They’re supposed to be so vicsious, and whenever theres a serious dog bite, everybody calls the animal a pittbull whether it is or not, and yet they are really some of the best family dogs you can get. I really don’t believe there is any one breed of dog that is nasty, it’s the individuals themselves, and how they’ve been raised. If you want to prove that your dog is not aggressive, try introducing him to landowners, or going to the local pound and asking them to do their temper tests on him. (don’t worry, they don’t hurt the dog. They only test to see if he has any aggressions over other dogs, food, being touched anywhere specific, that kind of thing.) You could also get a recomendation from your vet. I think as long as you prove that your individual dog is a sweetheart, there won’t be any problems, good luck! ^_^

No breed of dog can be considered more agressive than the next. Its nonesence, but just check with the landlords. I doubt there would be a problem with a Husky.
Good luck!

NO DOG BREED IS AGGRESSIVE. MANY DOGS CAN BECOME AGGRESSIVE, DUE TO THE OWNER. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO HOW U TRAIN UR DOG.

Insurance companies have a list that they raise insurance rates on certain breeds.
Husky is not on the list and everything should be fine as long as he has no bite history.
FYI – The dogs on the list I have never had one that was "vicious" I have had other breeds but none of the ones people would ever expect to be irreversable.

The the answer I think you are looking for is what is considered by landlords as aggressive. The ones that would top the list are;
Pit Bulls
Rottweilers
Dobermans
Akitas
German Shepards

The site I looked at listed 11 dogs ranging from Pitbulls, American Stafordshire terriers and rottis to Alaskan Malamutes and Huskys. We responsible owners are getting shafted!

Here’s the list most apartment complexes I’ve lived in have used:
Pit Bull (this includes anything that looks remotely like a pit, such as an AmStaff, Cane Corso, sometimes even American Bulldog), Rottweiler, Doberman, German Shepherd, Chow, Malamute, Husky, Mastiff, Great Dane, St. Bernard.
Strange list, huh? The last 3 are usually included because they are afraid of potential damage from such a large dog. If you are looking to rent a privately owned home, sometimes you will find a landlord willing to work with you so long as your dog is well-behaved. Many just want to meet the dog and decide for themselves.
If you are looking to buy, some insurance companies won’t cover ‘aggressive’ breeds. State Farm does not discriminate based on dog breed, so they are a good company for those with guardian breeds.
Good luck! I’ve got an Akita pup, so I know I’ll be going through the same as you next time I move!

Do the places which state they do not allow aggressive dogs have a list showing which breeds THEY consider aggressive?
If any of them consider a Siberian Husky aggressive, what you CAN do is take him to the training so he can get a Good Citizen Award. With this award in hand, you are in a strong position to validly state that your dog should be allowed in this residence.
I have looked at some of the aggressive dog lists, and I disagree with some of the dogs listed. I see the Siberian Husky on the first list, which has the St. Bernard that I would contest being on the list. Several of the dogs on the Aggressive Dogs Lists are dogs from breeds with a strong prey drive. Others are dogs who tend to be nervous in temperament. Dogs on these lists can be fine, IF the owner knows how to train the dog that the owner IS PACK LEADER. Any dog who acknowledges you as Pack Leader properly and completely, will be a good dog unless you are an aggressive person.
I think your best bet is to get the GCA for your dog. It’s a 10 part test and will be a real asset to you when you need to PROVE your dog is well behaved.

I really dont think huskies are agresive, German shepherds are just really protective/teritorial, . german shepherds and huskies to me are very l;oving dogs.
Iam kind of biased though because I have a German Shepherd and a husky
