How do i help my Maltese dogs to mate?
My family has two maltese dogs, one male and one female. The male, is 4 years old while the female is 1year and two months. We are planning to breed because the female has recently go her period but the male is, well a virgin and does not know how to do it, he just seems to hump her side or tail. How do we help him impregante her?
Ps we have a family friend who has been breed dogs, so she might help us with the delivery or we will hire a vet.
She is too young to be bred. She needs to be at least 2 years before being bred.
Not that I am condoning it then, I’m just telling you that now, for her heath, is too young. It would be like allowing a 12 year old to get pregnant. She CAN but should she? No, for many reasons.
However great you think your dogs are, they both most likely are not good examples of the breed and therefore have no business being bred. I’m not against breeding, I am against pointless breeding by people who are not knowledgeable. Let you pets be happy pets. They don’t need or want to have puppies.
wait until shes in heat on the rag and he will mount! men always do

First off, dogs shouldn’t have puppies until after age 2 when the body reaches maturity.
More importantly: About 5 million dogs in the USA are killed each year because there are not enough homes. Unless your dogs are a champion show dogs and the best of their standards, why do you want to be part of the problem? Go spend a day in a euthanasia shelter and then see if you really want to breed dogs.
Be part of the solution and have your dogs spayed and neutered.

I’m a veterinarian.
Ugh, what’s with the excess of BYB questions?
This is what you do:
You take your dogs to the vet for a good spay and neuter.
There are a TON of cute, purebred, dogs lacking homes. They’re homeless because someone who didn’t know ANYTHING about breeding (such as yourself) decided it would be fun for their dogs to have "babies" while their b*tch was on their "period".

Oh wake up to yourself. Go to a few pounds and see how many badly bred small white fluffy dogs are sitting in cages waiting to be killed on euthansia day.
We don’t need any more pound fodder being bred by amateur back yard breeders.
I rescue dogs in Australia and I can tell you without any doubt that we do not need any more badly bred small white fluffy dogs.
Apart from that you don’t know that your bit*ch is too young to be mated and dogs don’t have periods, they go into Estrus which is the exact opposite of a period.
If you are negligent enough to breed this bit*ch puppy you had better have a lazy $2000 put aside to pay for a C section. If your family friend is happy to help you breed and whelp this puppy then she is also a back yard breeder.
By the way, vets do not put themselves up for hire any more than human doctors do. We consult vet and pay for their animal health and surgical expertise.

I don’t care what you do to ensure her safety. First of all she’s too young, second you most likely didn’t get her genetically tested as well as the male, also you don’t show them so they don’t have their CH titles. Don’t you know there are thousands upon thousands of dogs and puppies in the shelters, pounds, humane societies and SPCA’s!?! You are taking their homes away and possibly sending a few, if you breed, to those places as well. Fix them both and enjoy them as pets. Breeding increases her chances of cancers!
Don’t be a BYB

You going to need a vet anyway. To make sure the pregnancy goes well. Your gonna need radiographs eventually to see exactly how many pups your female dog will delivery. You will also need your vet to tell you signs of dystocia(difficult birth) in case there are complications with ur dog whelping. If there is complications, she may need a c-section so i would definitely put money a side for that as well. they can be pretty pricey 1000-2000 dollars. depending on your location!

I hope you know how many thousands of dollars it takes to breed dogs.
And better than that, will you be happy with yourself when the puppies end up in the pound because there are already too many small white fluffy dogs that nobody wants?
Things that can go wrong:
B*tch dies in labor before you can get to the vet OR: As happened in the UK, b*tch needs cesarean, you can’t pay up front as vet demands and they won’t allow you to take the b*tch elsewhere (animal welfare issue they were told) only option was to have b*tch put to sleep with pups inside her.
B*tch whelps but lack of calcium or just plain bad mothering skills means she kills them all
B*tch gets eclampsia, dies or needs to be sedated and pumped full of calcium at the vet at 2am. $500 might buy you one night. Pups would probably need to be handraised, at least for a couple of days
B*tch gets "black" mastitis, requires operation to repair damage (or dies in agony). ABs, surgical dressings, feeding puppies, surgery to repair damage – $1500 + time off work $$$$$
$1000 for a caesar, non-emergency, double or triple that for a larger dog and/or emergency
$500 for aftercare when the stitches break, assuming no major infection
Handraising pups, say $10 per week for formula per pup + $$$$$$$$$$$ for the time off work to actually manage to do this every 2-4 hours
Raise pup to 6 weeks then it needs to be PTS due to nerve damage sustained at birth.
Don’t contribute to the cycle of abuse, get them both desexed and stop adding to the poor animals in pounds.
