Giving up pet dogs n cats bcos they contribute to Food Price Increase Globally?

The global increase of pets keeping (especially dogs n cats) has resulted in global shortage of food hence the increase in food price. So, are you willing to cut down on the number of pets you keeping?
Actually, pets tend to get fed the "leftovers" from human food production, creating a market for products that would otherwise be thrown away. So in fact pets are keeping the price of food DOWN.

This is completely false. If there is demand for food, there will be a supply. If people are able to pay for food, food will be produced. If the poor were able to afford food, more farms would open to supply this food for them. There is PLENTY of food to go around- the problem is that some people can’t afford it. The farmers need to make a profit, so they’ll only pay to people who can afford a certain price… which is why food is given to dogs instead of the poor.
I’ve taken several classes in economics… I know how supply and demand works!
On top of that, there is NO global shortage of food. There is tons of unused farm land, and we are always finding new ways to produce more food on less land (such as genetic engineering, pesticides, and fertilizers). There is a global shortage of money to pay for food.

I will just as soon as every lazy human on this planet is gainfully employed working to produce more food.
There’s no shortage of land to grow food, just people to do it.
That’s a people problem, not a pet problem.

surely not. the food crisis is increasing not because of them. the horrible growth in human population has given rise to the food scarcity all over the world. WE DONOT EAT THEIR FOOD cutting down their number is not so essential. in the third world countries population blast is alarming. but during my stay in the first country, the USA i found lots of people having more than 3 kids.it is not so even in India which is in the most alarming state. China is the only country where there is state wise attempt to control this problem
why blame the poor animals? if you cant affor your own kid & a pet you may dump the pet.

That’s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. In the first place, do you have ANY idea how much the pet industry puts back into the economy? DO YOU?
And in the second place, I’ll give up my pets when we get all the deadbeats that keep popping out kid after kid off welfare… every last one of them.
