How many pet dogs do you have and why?

Some people have several dogs at one time. Is it because one is insufficient? Why do people keep 3,5,7 even 10 dogs at one time? How do you feed them all and take care of their vet bills?

I have unemployed Border Collies left over from the days when we raised sheep.
They sometimes get so bored they herd each other.
But they are old, and I am grateful for their years of service around the farm.

  3. Hi Craig. I have just one dachshund and that is enough dog for me, believe me! He costs enough in one year that I couldn’t afford more.

  4. I have two dogs, they are really healthy because I feed them raw, and so they barely ever have to go to the vet. I have two dogs because I like the company and each dogs is different so it’s fun to have dogs with different personalities.

I have 2 dogs because i wanted 2 would have more if i could but with all the other animals i have i don’t have the time
I have pet insurance i also have a fund for vet bills as well that i use for vaccinations worming flea treatment and which don’t come under the terms of the insurance
I feed raw which is cheaper if you know where to look and get good bargains the abattoir being one of those
My fish tanks cost more than my dogs to keep hence why i only have the 2 dogs but know people with multiple dogs who manage to afford them

  7. I have two dogs because one isn’t enough lol. I think most dogs like a companion while you are out during the day plus it mimics the pack in the wild. Anyhow I would love to have more but like you said, very hard to pay all those vet bills and many (not all) of the people who have 10+ dogs don’t take them all to the vet or get premium/expensive food.

we have one dog, and she is enough! we originally got her to scare away burglars (her bark is bad) and for my daughter’s 12th birthday because she nagged us to death.
my friend has two purebred collies (the black ones) and they have a huge fenced yard to run in.

  10. I have for dogs and one cat because I’m an animal lover and they make the greatest best friends. I can afford them because I make money lol and I give them good healthy food which means less vet trips.

I have two dogs at home. An australian cattle dog that is 10, and a Pekingnese/Pomeranian mix that is 5. Both were adopted. For food they actually both eat the same kind so it’s only about 40-50$ a month for food and our vet is very good and only charges 30$ for office visit and if they have to go back for shots or any medicine it is free(but then of course you have to pay for the extra services). I love having both of them. One is big and likes to rough house and is a good guard dog and the other is small and sits on my lap while I watch tv. Their personalities are completly different too which makes playtime more exciting and fun. They keep eachother company while we are away which is good for both of them.

  12. I have two German shepherds. My sister bought two of them, intending to keep one and give me the other one. We had the female for six years, and then my sister’s situation changed so that she had to give up the male. Rather than see him land in the Humane Society, we took him, too.

They are litter mates, they get along well, and he has turned out to be every bit as sweet-tempered and loving as she is. Yes, the extra vet bill can be a bit of a drain on the budget, but he’s well worth the money. He’d never had as much love and attention as a German shepherd needs to be at their best, but now that he’s got it, he’s the biggest mush puppy you ever saw.

I love my dogs, and I’m committed to taking care of them for their entire lives. If I have to cut back a bit on some non essentials to be able to afford both of them, that’s fine, too. They give me a lot of enjoyment and companionship, and to me, that justifies every penny spent on them.

  13. We have 3 dogs (possibly 4 soon). . .it just works. We wanted multiple dogs so that we could simply have multiple dogs– they all have unique personalities and traits. We didn’t get them all at once, we would have one for awhile and then decide we wanted to add another to the mix a little later on.

The fourth dog we get will be 100% mine – one dog is enough for me to take care of, and I like devoting my time and energy to just one. In 3 or 4 years I may add another one to my personal household, but one is a good start for me.

We can afford vet bills and food. In fact, it’s cheaper to feed and vet our dogs than it is to feed and vet our farm cats, which we also do.

Personally 4, is pushing my (and my family’s) limit — growing up, we had a limit of 3 and raised it just last year…I can’t imagine having close to 10 dogs, but to each their own; if they can care for that many, more power to them.

  14. I am one of those ppl that own 10+ dogs. Why because i cant see an animal suffer. I have not bought any dog i own out right from a breeder. I am not a shelter. I take animals in and work locally with local no kill shelters to find them forever homes. I also stand up in court for the animals i have helped. Animals are a passion of mine and ppl make the time and put up the money for their passions.
