what makes a good pet besides dogs and cats?

whats a good pet a kid could take care of. No cats and dogs. Maybe an exotic pet. something of that sort.

there are lot’s of great types of pets out there. I suggest going to a shelter or looking at petfinder.com. You would be greatly improving the life of that animal. Here are a few types of animals good for kids with adult super vision:
guinea pigs (really awesome pets)
ferrets (the most playful animal that ever lived)
fish
turtles
other reptiles
amphibians
rats (they are REALLY great pets. they can’t get rabies, they are very clean, they live 3-4 years, and they’re really fun to have in the family.)
rabbits
hedhehogs
sugar gliders
budgies
mice
degus (very exotic)

Both.. Dogs are a little more interactive, but they need more attention. Cats are very independent, but they are cleaner in some ways…

  5. Exotics are a problem(because most people just let them go) Take the situation of the Anaconda snakes in the Everglades. The alligators are losing(just because someone(or two) did not want their pet snake anymore and set it free.
Maybe another kid? I hear they don’t shed much.

  8. When I lived in apartment where cats and dogs weren’t allowed, I got a rabbit for my children. They are pretty good pets and easy to care for, so I would definitely recommend one to you. Rabbits don’t tend to bite much, if at all (mine didn’t), and they can be lots of fun if they are well socialized with kids from the time they are very young. The food is pretty inexpensive (Farm and Fleet has 40 pound bags for about $6), kids enjoy watching them eat fruits and treats, and they don’t make any noise really unless scared or injured. My kids had lots of fun with our rabbit, Charlie. One great thing about rabbits is that they are really cuddly and soft with minimal care. The only thing is that you have to remind your kids to feed them every morning, as kids tend to forget. Hope that helps, and whatever you choose, hope you find a great pet!!!

  9. Mice. A little out of the blue perhaps, but a long time ago my 2nd grade teacher had one as a class pet and we all loved her :) then she gave her to me and that was my first mouse. They’re sweet, they seldom bite (get them young; the only one that bit me was the one I got as an adult). You can get 2 so they’re nit lonely when you’re not there. Low maintenance. Curious and cute :)

Anyway, maybe a fish, or a hamster, or a guinea pig? All cool enough…you can train fish you know.
Or a hermit crab? You can paint their shells.
    Or a ferret.
