Which nations have the most pet dogs?

I live in the UK and see lot of dogs around, When I went to Shanghai I only saw a couple of dogs – and they were police dogs – during my whole holiday. Is this a cultural thing with people who have pet dogs?

  3. The US has the most dogs. Estimates vary from 46 million to 61 million, but most sources put the figure towards the top end of that range. That also gives the US the highest dog ownership rate in the world. The American Vetinerary Medical Association estimated in 2007 that 37.2 per cent of households in that country owned a dog.

    Brazil has the second highest number of dogs – around 30 million – and China third at around 23 million.
